Jacqueline Holte was the sister of an American singer-songwriter, Patti LaBelle. Not much is known about her personal and professional life since she was only famous as the sister of Patti LaBelle. She died in 1989 due to brain cancer at the age of 43. In this article, let’s learn more about her and her sister Patti LaBelle.

Who is Patti LaBelle?

Patti LaBelle is the stage name of Patricia Louise Holte, an American R&B singer, songwriter, businesswoman, and actor. She is sometimes referred to as “The Godmother of Soul.”

Early Life and Career

Early in the 1960s, she began her career as the main vocalist and frontwoman of the singing group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. They released the famous number-one song “Lady Marmalade” after changing the group’s name to Labelle in the 1970s. Following the dissolution of the group in 1976, LaBelle started her successful solo career. Her critically acclaimed debut album featured one of her best songs, “You Are My Friend,” and was widely appreciated as a ground-breaking work.

Awards Received

LaBelle’s 1991 album Burnin’, which had three of her best songs, earned her a 1992 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The live new album “One Night Only” won LaBelle a second Grammy Award. She maintained her reputation with young R&B fans throughout the 1990s thanks to her albums Burnin’, Gems, and Flame. For the album “Back to Now,” she and her Labelle bandmates got back together again.

More Fame and Recognition

More than 50 million recordings have been sold globally by LaBelle over the course of a career spanning seven decades. She has been inducted into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame, the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Grammy Hall of Fame. She was also listed among the top 100 singers in Rolling Stone. A dramatic soprano, she is renowned for her vocal strength, range, and expressive delivery.

Acting Career

With roles in the TV shows “A Different World” and “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” as well as the Oscar-nominated film A Soldier’s Story, LaBelle has succeeded as an actress. She had her own TV sitcom, Out All Night, in 1992. She hosted her own lifestyle TV program ten years later. She has also created her own chain of food, cookbooks, and mattresses for other businesses. When a YouTube video praised her Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie in 2015, Walmart sold one pie every second over the course of 72 hours.

Personal Life and Family

LaBelle was born on 24 May 1944 in the Eastwick district of southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother was a housewife, and her father worked as a singer in clubs and on the railroad. Despite appreciating her upbringing, LaBelle later claimed in her memoirs “Don’t Block the Blessings” that her parent’s relationship was abusive.   LaBelle was 12 years old when a family friend began harassing her sexually after her parent’s divorce.

Final Wordings

Patti LaBelle is, without a doubt, a legend in the music industry. She is renowned for her distinctive flair, amazing stage presence, and powerful voice. Because all three of LaBelle’s sisters passed away young, not much is known about Jacqueline Holte.
