Euphoria Season 2: Characters, Plot, Launch, and Latest Updates

Adapted from the Israeli show of the same title, “Euphoria”, this American version follows the life of Rue, a 17-year old drug addict who lived a troubled life with no plans on staying clean after being sent to rehab.

Among Rue’s circle of friends is Jules, a transgender girl looking for answers as to where she belongs; a jock with anger management issues that mask sexual insecurities named Nate; a football star who finds high school transition to college very difficult called Chris.

Cassie, whose sexual history continues to haunt her; and a body-conscious teen who’s in the gap of exploring sexual orientation named Kat. named Kat.

An American teen drama made by Sam Levinson, the series follows the life of high school students in the typical teenage crises of sex, drugs, love, friendship, identity, and trauma.

Euphoria was first released on June 16, 2019, with the American actress and singer, Zendaya Coleman as its leading protagonist. And in July 2019, the series had its sequel for a second season. 

With its superb quality in terms of cinematography, performances, story, and score, Euphoria has received positive acclaims from critics especially those of Zendaya Coleman and Hunter Schafer despite having received some controversies due to its nudity and sexual content.

Nonetheless, Euphoria was nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best International Programme and the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. And with this, the Primetime Emmy Award and Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series was given to Zendaya Coleman because of her explicit performance.

Euphoria Season 2 Cast and Characters

  • Sydney Sweeney is McKay’s girlfriend whose infamous sexual past has continued to haunt her and is also Lexie’s older sister.

Production

HBO announced on June 1, 2017, that it was developing an adaptation of the 2012 famous Israeli television series “Euphoria” by Ron Leshem, Tmira Yardeni, and Daphna Levin.

It was expected to be written by Sam Levinson alongside Leshem, Yardeni, Levin, Mirit Toovi, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon as co-producers. The series was based on Levinson’s struggles with anxiety, depression, and drug addiction in his teenage life. 

Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president announced on March 13, 2018, at the INTV conference in Jerusalem that the network was set to develop a pilot order for the all-new “Euphoria” adaptation series and that A24 would serve as its production company.

It was announced on March 27, 2018, that Augustine Frizzell would direct the pilot episode and work as a co-executive producer. And on July 30, 2018, HBO announced that it had given the production a series order with Levinson as the writer for every episode of the series.

Second Season

On July 11, 2019, Euphoria was renewed for a second season after receiving positive feedback from critics with its original first season despite controversies on nudity and sex. Its promotional posters were designed by Percival & Associates. 

After winning the Emmy award for its first season, HBO has ordered two special episodes with the first being set to release on December 6, 2020, with the title “Trouble Don’t Last Always.” 

Lead actress Zendaya Coleman posted on her Instagram with a close-up shot of Hunter Schafer staring at Zendaya’s Character, Rue with the caption, “We really missed them.

Two special Euphoria episodes coming soon.” With this, fans are excited for the release of the most-awaited second season after its drawback due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Surely, film productions were hindered because of this pandemic and put both producers and fans in a stalemate.

However, much to our desire to hasten things up, we are now a step closer to the most-awaited second season of our favorite series.

Euphoria is coming back with a more exciting and thrilling plot as we venture ourselves into the lives of these teenagers and find out new things as to where this story will lead us.
