Herbert Arthur Disney was an American civil engineer and planner. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 8, 1888, the son of Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney. Herbert’s father was an Irish Canadian immigrant who had arrived in the United States in 1835. His mother was born in Ohio and of German and English descent.

Herbert Disney graduated from the University of Illinois in 1910 with a degree in civil engineering. He worked for a time as a bridge builder in Illinois, then moved to Kansas City, where he worked for the city’s waterworks department. In 1918, he married Edna Francis, with whom he would have four children.

In 1900, Disney was hired by the city of Chicago to work on the construction of the city’s drainage canal. He would later work on the city’s sewer system and on the engineering of the Chicago River’s reversal. He also worked on the development of the city’s lakefront.

Disney was a man of many talents. He was a brilliant animator, a gifted storyteller, and a Master of Marketing. He was also a visionary who changed the face of entertainment. He will forever be remembered as one of the most influential people in the history of film. After suffering from lung cancer, Walt Disney finally took his last break on December 15, 1966.
