Sanditon Season 2: Characters, Launch Date, Setting, Plot, and More

Sanditon is a historical drama from the United Kingdom. It was adapted into a television series by Andrew Davies. The series is based on an unfinished manuscript that was written by Jane Austen.

The television series was first aired in the United Kingdom on ITV. It premiered last August 25, 2019, and was divided into eight parts. Sanditon premiered in the United States last January 12, 2020, and was released on PBS.

Since the series is based on an unfinished novel, the original eleven chapters of the story were used for the majority of the first season. Andrew Davies then used the characters that were developed to complete the rest of his adaptation.

The series is set during the Regency era. The series follows the story of a naive young man as she explores and navigates the seaside resort called Sanditon. Charlotte Heywood, is an unconventional and spirited young woman. When she first got to Sanditon, she was keen to dive into everything that the seaside town has to offer.

What she was not expecting though is that this town, although coming from prominent families, is composed of scheming and a little too ambitious inhabitants. She got hooked and intrigued by the secrets that the community of Sanditon shares.

Charlotte eventually had an encounter with the family of Tom Parker, an entrepreneur. She then found herself attracted to Tom’s younger sibling, Sidney.

The main Sanditon Cast is composed of Rose Williams who plays the lead role as Charlotte Heywood, Theo James who plays Sidney Parker, Kate Ashfield as Mary Parker, Crystal Clarke who plays Cgeorgiana Lambe, Turlough Convery who plays Arthur Parker, and Jack Fox as Sir Edward Denham.

The supporting cast is composed of Kris Marshall who plays Tom Parker, Matthew Needham who plays Mr. Crowe. Anne Reid as Lady Denham, Alexandra Roach as Diana Parker, Lily Sacofsky as Clara Brereton, Charlotte Spencer as Esther Denham, Mark Stanley as Lord Babington, and Leo Suter who plays as James Stringer.

Sanditon Season 2 Latest Update and Release Date

Production for the second season of Sanditon is in full roll and was originally set to premiere during the fourth quarter of 2020. But due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the production experienced several delays so the target premiere date was moved.

Speculations on the second season of Sanditon release date falls on the later part of 2021 or early 2022. No official release date has been announced by the United Kingdom-based production company.

What Is Expected Upon The Return Of Sanditon, Quick Recap

Same as it was in season 1, the original story that this series is based on is unfinished due to the author’s illness. So the director decided to play the story based on the first season’s character development. But the series is speculated to end with a happy ending, same as the other Austen romantic novels.

The season 2 plot revolves around the new path that the main lead couple took after they parted ways at the ending of the first season. To have a quick recap, the whole first season narrative revolved around the build-up of Charlotte Heywood and Sidney Parker’s romantic relationship.

But it was not the kind of relationship that they hoped for. They were plagued with a lot of misunderstandings and recurring issues due to character flaws and insecurities. These challenges eventually led to the end of their relationship.

But regardless of the hardships that they had to undergo, our lovers are not giving up yet despite their flaws. However, when the whole Parker family conspired against Charlotte, Sidney was backed into a corner and was left with no choice.

This was the heartbreaking ending of the first season. In the second season, it is expected that we see the inevitable reunion of the lovers with a load of exciting plot twists.
