Add Heat to Your Favorite Dish

We all have our favorites, from the classic Friday-night pizza to the chicken dishes that carry us through the week. Are your go-to dishes feeling a little stale lately? Don’t dump them just yet. If you reinvent them, even just slightly, you might fall in love with them all over again.

What’s the best way to do that, you ask? Just try adding heat, of course. If spicing things up is new to you, you’ll be glad to learn there’s plenty of ways to do so. Have no fear if you aren’t sure where to start because here’s a few options to get you started.

Pepper Jelly

Don’t think this just for crackers and cream cheese. Many people love to just use it for that, but it’s also a perfect marinade for chicken and your other favorite meats. If meatloaf makes a regular appearance at your family’s table, pepper jelly is a great way to reinvent its flavors and while keeping what makes that family classic so special.

If you don’t have any on hand, don’t sweat about where to buy pepper jelly. You should be able to find it at most stores and there’s also an endless amount of options online.

Jalapeno

They are more versatile than you’d think, so if you only know jalapenos in dip, there’s a whole world for you to explore. From stuffing it in chicken breast, to throwing it in with your favorite burger dressings, you’ve got tons of choices when it comes to these peppers.

Using these is also a great way for anyone to get themselves used to heat. Looking for a mild experience? Take out the seeds. If you are looking to really enhance your favorites? Leave them all in and enjoy the ride.

Black Pepper

Most kitchens will have this within them, so don’t overlook this extremely easy way to add some heat. It’s easy to think plain old black pepper can’t do that, but you’ll be surprised if you add in a little more than usual.

It’s a perfect option for those looking to keep the flavor of their favorite dishes near-exact all while wanting to add a little kick. If you do want the black pepper flavor to be more pronounced, try freshly cracking it. That’ll amp up it’s flavor like you wouldn’t believe.

Hot Sauce

Mind you, we aren’t quite talking about wing sauce here. While that’s great, hot sauce is only one part of what we know as buffalo. Just add plain old hot sauce, any of the grocery store brands will serve you well, to what you love and you’ll be surprised at all the layers of flavor that come with it.

Don’t think this just for meals like chicken, and therefore dinner. It’s great at any time of the day. If the thought of eggs is what gets you out of bed, but you’re looking to reinvent the flavor, a couple dashes of hot sauce might be all you need.

Red Pepper Flakes

The pizza shop’s must-have shaker topping is good for more than just spicing up your favorite pie. While it’s perfect there, it’s also a great addition for those who can’t get enough pasta in their lives. Don’t stop there either; anything you think could use a dose of sweet heat will pair perfectly with red pepper flakes.
