In 2023, light trucks, which include crossovers, SUVs, trucks, and vans, accounted for about 80% of vehicle sales. This proves that chunkier, taller vehicles are now all the rage.

Still, that doesn’t mean sedans no longer have a place in our garages. There are many reasons to pick them over their larger counterparts, such as fuel economy. They’re generally more efficient, easier to maneuver, and more affordable.

Hyundai sedans do particularly well in those aspects.

To that end, we created this guide discussing Hyundai’s top sedan options. Read on to discover what the South Korean carmaker offers with its smaller vehicle segment.

1. The Hyundai Elantra

The Elantra, first launched in 1990, is a five-seater Hyundai sedan that has won numerous awards. One of its most recent wins is for the 2024 model year, which garnered a TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation from the IIHS. That says much about its safety, as the “+” award involves more stringent tests than the TOP SAFETY PICK.

The Elantra also garnered high scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA gave the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4 DR FWD model a five-star rating. It’s the highest possible safety score a vehicle can get from this test.

Overall, the Elantra offers a comfortable ride and drive and boasts responsive handling. It’s spacious inside, has adult-friendly seats, and features an easy-to-use infotainment system.

2. The Hyundai Sonata

While the Elantra and Sonata are sedans, the former classifies as a compact car. By contrast, the Sonata falls under the “mid-size” category. This means the Sonata is bigger and more spacious, although it also means it’s heavier.

Despite its greater weight, the fuel economy of the 2023 Hyundai Sonata is still one of the best in its class. The gasoline-powered models return between 33 and 36 miles per gallon (MPG), depending on their engine. The hybrid ones are even more impressive, with MPG ratings ranging from 45 and higher.

Like the Elantra, though, the Sonata is also a safety award-winner. For the 2023 model year, the NHTSA gave it an overall five-star rating.

3. The Hyundai IONIQ 6

Another accolade-winning sedan from Hyundai is the IONIQ 6. It’s the second model the South Korean carmaker has produced for IONIQ, its all-electric lineup.

At the 2023 World Car Awards alone, the IONIQ 6 earned not one but three prestigious awards, including:

· World Car of the Year

· World Electric Vehicle

· World Car Design of the Year

All of those prove the IONIQ 6 is an excellent electric sedan designed to deliver comfort and be a more sustainable choice. It also boasts a comfortable interior and ride quality, numerous innovative tech, and an extended driving range.

Consider Investing in One of These Hyundai Sedans

Now you know that the Elantra, Sonata, and IONIQ 6 are the top three models of Hyundai sedans. All are award-winning Hyundai cars designed for comfort, performance, safety, and fuel efficiency.

So, if you want a reasonably priced, comfortable, and fuel-saving ride, consider exploring new and used Hyundai sedans.
