Alexa Marie Aikman was born on July 30, 2002, to Troy Aikman and his first wife, Rhonda. Troy Kenneth Aikman was born on November 21, 1966, in West Covina, California, U.S. to Kenneth Aikman and Charlyn Bailey Aikman. He has two older sisters, Tammy Aikman Powell, and Terri Starns. At the age of 12, Troy’s family moved to Henryetta, Oklahoma, where he played football and baseball at Henryetta High School, where he would earn All-State honors. He also won the 1983 Oklahoma high school state championship in typing.

On June 2, 2017, Troy announced his engagement to high-end fashion retailer Catherine “Capa” Mooty on Instagram. Catherine had two high-school-aged sons, Luke and Val, with her ex-husband, lawyer Jerry Mooty, who is the nephew of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.  On September 1, 2017, Troy and Catherine married at the Biltmore Four Seasons in Montecito, California.
