Early life
Rakim Athelaston Mayers, born on the 3rd of October 1988 in Harlem, United States, had a very troubled childhood. He had a family of four, including himself, his father, a sister and an elder brother. His father, who was originally from Barbados, was arrested for peddling drugs, when Rocky was just 12 years old.
His brother, who brought him into rapping and inspired him further into it, was murdered when Mayers was 13. His father too passed away in the year 2012. Rakim’s name has been inspired from one of the duo, Eric B and Rakim. He was 9 and had just shifted to Pennsylvania, when he started rapping initially.
Mayers was primarily influenced by his brother who taught him to rap and most part of Mayer’s attire has been inspired from his brother, including his hair twists. Mobb Deep, Three 6 Mafia, Wu-Tang Clan, UGK, Run DMC inspired him a lot.
He was 15 when he had to roam about in search of food and shelter along with his mother and sister and had to sell crack and marijuana to make a living. From 2011 to 2012, ASAP Rocky is believed to have been in a relationship with Iggy Azalea who was an Australian Rapper. During the initial 2013, he started seeing Chanel Iman, who was a model by profession. The couple separated in the year 2014. ASAP Rocky had been a pescetarian for most of his life, which means he consumed just seafood for meat, otherwise he ate only greens.
