How can I add more innovation to my vehicle? How can I add power and speed to my car? Can I build a car with a motorcycle engine?
If you have ever been a petrolhead, these questions might hit you at any point in your life. But the question is, did you get the answers for all of them? Let’s not go about the others, but you can definitely build a car with a motorcycle engine.
In fact, many car manufacturing companies offer cars with motorcycle engines off the shelf. Some of the vehicles come in an assembly kit and some with turn-key machines. In addition to that, you can even build a hybrid car from scratch using the motorcycle engine. Yes, that’s right!! These unique cars outperform comparatively to the muscle cars.
But you need to keep one thing in mind that not all motorcycle engines are compatible with all the car sizes and needs. For these types of conversions, you need to make sure that you are using the lightest vehicles.
Not too many petrolheads are interested in the conversions as the engines that come from the motorcycles are not impressive enough to be instilled in the car efficiently. You have to make a lot of changes to the frame, body, and of course, due to the change in horsepower measurements, your expectations go either way when you build a car with a motorcycle engine.
Let’s move further and discuss some of the perfect cars that work best with the motorcycle engine and look even cooler than the normal steel on wheels.
1. Iso Isetta and BMW 600
Have you seen motorized scooter refrigerators? Yes, they are real. Italians at Iso make them, whereas three-wheeled trucks were also their construction. Back in the 1950s, the company owner decided to launch a range of small cars.
And then Isetta was born having a 200cc engine taken from the Iso Moto 200. The title means little Iso and you can expect to get a faster speed from this teeny tiny cool car.
So the passengers have to open the door like a fridge to sit from the front of the car. As you can see the handle is instilled the same to save the cost. The initial version of the car was able to run smoothly at 47 mph with just 9.5 HP from a single cylinder of two strokes. This was something astronomical at that time with this small car.
2. Honda N600
Honda manufacturers are more famous for their CRX, Civic Accord, and a long list of scooters and motorcycles. Back in the early 1800s, Honda was more known for its motorcycle line but the reason gradually shifted to cars, and the first one to do that was Honda N600.
It was the evolution of Kei cars that were popularly sold in the markets of the US and Europe in those times. N600 carried 2, 600 cubic centimeters cylinders which were taken from Honda CB450 motorcycle. The mini N600 is able to reach 81 mph (130 km/h) with a 9,000rpm cooling engine.
3. Cooper 500
If you really are a petrolhead, then you must have heard about Mini Coopers and undoubtedly can list a number of British racing car drivers using coopers without struggling too much with them. Formula 3 racing car Cooper 500 was originally made from a moto engine.
A cooper car company, Surrey developed and manufactured the car. The engine was developed from 500 cubic centimeters with a single-cylinder motorcycle engine. The mid-mounted is placed right behind the driver’s seat. Cooper cars are the ones with F3 domination in their Prime era plus, at the back of 1959’s Jack Brabham’s F1 world championship win.
4. BMW i3 Rex
Range extender vehicle and EV are the two flavors that BMW offers in i3. Since the former version of the car was purely electrical but the latter one employs a motorcycle engine that supports the vehicle as a generator. T
he i3 REx possesses a 650 cc engine that is the same engine that BMW instilled in C650 GT. REx is not developed directly from maxi-scooter, the engine is a bit optimized and modified to be used for the purpose.
And through the optimization, the output has dropped to 34 from 65HP. The fuel tank can have 2.4 gallons of fuel at a time as the engine runs on gas. The new innovative design in an electric car derived from a motorcycle engine is the new attraction to the drivers who need tiny cars with no hassle.
5. Morgan 3- wheeler
It is an ideal vehicle for those who love to sit and drive in an open cockpit car. Its V- twin super engine makes impressive sounds as you drive. Wire wheels in the Morgan come as a bonus touch which adds quite a fair flair to the versatile mix. It takes about six-plus months to be made after you order one for yourself as Morgan’s hand assembles everything in place.
The Morgan 3 wheeler line could be a bit longer but the innovations in the technologies have amended the design and development a bit and sped up the process by assembling the parts through robots. So you can expect less than the given time to arrive.
The vital model has been significant in the industry as it was built in 1909 and continues the legacy of being the first vehicle of Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. Once you hang on the vehicle, you will have the incredible sound due to a motorcycle engine which will make a cooler driving experience of all time.
