Mangas have had a great history in Japan and their popularity has been crossing borders lately. They’re being read and enjoyed not just in Japan but across the globe and thanks to the animes being made on them, that seem to have encouraged the Manga culture amongst people of age groups. 

The illustrations of the plot draw the younger generation towards it while the refreshing plot is what attracts the elder generation. Megalobox is an anime series that was created to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of a popular Manga, “Ashita no Joe”. The studio TMS Entertainment and 3xCube had produced the Manga, who was also involved in the production of the Anime that was made on it in 1980.

Megalobox is an Anime that is based on the anime Ashita no Joe that was written by Asao Takamori. The Manga is based on the sport of boxing. Ashita no Joe was published by Kodansha and featured in the Shōnen Magazine and Edge. The Manga had 2 volumes which had a run between February 17, 2018, to August 17, 2018. 

The Anime television series based on the Manga has been helmed by Yō Moriyama and the screenplay was written by Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima. Its background score was given by Mabanua and the studios involved in the production of the anime series were TMS Entertainment and 3xCube.

The series was licensed across the globe by Madman Entertainment, Anime Limited, Viz Media, and Medialink. The series was originally aired on JNN. In the USA, it aired on Adult Swim (Toonami). The Anime premiered on April 6, 2018, and its last episode was aired on June 29, 2018. It had 13 episodes.

The second season of the series was helmed by Yō Moriyama and it was written by Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima. The background score of the anime was given by Mabanua and the studio involved in its production was TMS Entertainment. It was licensed by Funimation and Medialink. The series originally aired on the networks Tokyo MX and BS11. It has had 13 episodes and its first episode premiered on April 4, 2021.

Plot:

The plot of the story is set in future Japan where all the citizens are divided between licensed and unlicensed. The licensed citizens live in a rich city with a lot of joy and comfort whereas the unlicensed citizens have to spend their lives in a slum on the outskirts of the city. A sport that is quite popular in future Japan is Megaloboxing that is quite similar to boxing, just the boxers wear a metallic frame that increases the brutality of their attacks. 

The protagonist of the story is Junk Dog, a young man who fights in the underground illegal fight clubs where the matches are scripted, where his coach Gansaku Nanbu decides his victories and losses. One day, he accidentally almost runs over Yukiko Shirato with his bike. Yukiko is the head of the super-rich Shirato Group which hosts the megalomania tournament. 

Junk dog picks up a fight with her bodyguard Yuri but Yukiko stops the fight. Yuri goes on to the underground fight club to challenge Junk Dog and easily beats the newbie Megaloboxer and asks him to fight him again at Megalonia. Junk Dog would need a top rank in the megalodon rankings and a citizenship ID to be a part of megalomania. Gansaku solves the problem for the citizenship ID and they are spared a time of 3 months to get top rankings in Megalobox and be a part of Megalomania.

The character of Gansaku Nanbu has been voiced by Shirō Saitō in Japanese and Jason Marnocha and English. The character of Yuri has been voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto in Japanese and Lex Lang and English. 

The character of Sachio has been voiced by Michiyo Murase in Japanese and Erica Mendez and English. The character of Yukiko Shirato has been voiced by Nanako Mori in Japanese and Erika Harlacher in English. The character of Fujimaki has been voiced by Hiroyuki Kinoshita in Japanese and Jamieson Price in English.

The character of Tatsumi Leonard Aragaki has been voiced by Makoto Tamura in Japanese and Greg Chun in English. The character of Miyagi has been voiced by Yōhei Tadano in Japanese and Jake Eberle in English. The character of Mikio Shirato has been voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki in Japanese and Robbie Daymond in English. The Release of Megalobox Season 2:

The makers of the show announced that the second season of the series shall be released on April 4, 2021. The fans of the show have been celebrating the release of the second season.
