Moana is an animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released back on December 30, 2016. The film was immensely popular among the viewers and proved to be a huge blockbuster hit.
It went on to gross $690 million worldwide and got nominated for an academy award. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker were the masterminds behind this great film. It managed to garner a lot of attention and love among its viewers.
The film’s immense popularity is also the reason why many are asking if there will be a second movie.
Speculations and rumors have been going around as people wait for any updates from Disney. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any official confirmation regarding ‘Moana 2.’

The global crisis that we are facing may be one reason why there aren’t any updates regarding a sequel for Disney’s hit animated film. Right now, there’s no certain detail about the long-awaited ‘Moana 2.’ However, fans are still hopeful that a sequel will be announced soon.
Moana 2: Cast
While we wait for any real updates regarding ‘Moana 2,’ fans can’t help but wonder who will be on it once it gets the green light. While it’s way too early to tell who will be on the cast of characters, you can expect to see your favorite actors reprising their roles. These include:
- Auli’I Cravalho as Moana. (the main protagonist and namesake of the film) She is the daughter of Motunui village chief Tui and his wife, Sina. Moana was chosen by the ocean to return the heart of Te Fiti.
- Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui. He is a shape-shifting demigod who becomes friends with Moana and accompanies her on her journey.
- Rachel House as Tala. She is Moana’s grandmother. She dies and gets reincarnated as a mystical manta ray who guides Moana on her journey.
- Temuera Morrison as Tui. He is Moana’s father and chief of Motunui Island. Tui is also Tala’s son.
- Nicole Scherzinger as Sina. She is Moana’s mother and wife to Tui. Along with Tui, she also helps lead the village of Motunui island.
- Jemaine Clement as Tamatoa. He is a giant coconut crab from Lalotai, also known as the Realm of Monsters.
We can also expect the following voices in the sequel:
- Louise Bush as Toddler Moana. If there are flashbacks in ‘Moana 2,’ expect Louse Bush to reprise her role as the toddler version of Moana.
- Alan Tudyk as Heihei, Moana’s pet chicken.
- Chris Jackson as Tui’s singing voice.
Several others are rumored to be part of ‘Moana 2.’ However, without any confirmation from the producers, we’ll have to wait and see.
Moana 2: Plot
With all that’s been said, what is the plot for ‘Moana 2’? What will happen, and will we get some unexpected twists and turns? So far, no updates yet on what the sequel will be about. However, we can make predictions by recalling what happened in the first movie.
The film follows a strong-willed young woman named ‘Moana’ of Motunui. Despite her father telling her to remain in the village where it’s safe, she draws closer to the ocean as she grows up. Moana later found out that she was chosen by the ocean to reinstate a sacred relic called the Heart of Te Fiti.
After a bright light strikes the island of Motunui, Moana sets off to look for the Heart. She went on to find Maui, a legendary shape-shifting demigod. Maui was the one who took the heart of Te Fiti to give it to the humans. Through their misadventures, Moana and Maui became friends. They both teamed up to search for the heart of Te Fiti and save Moana’s people.
As of right now, there’s little known about where ‘Moana 2’ will begin and what it will be about. However, the end of the movie did feature Moana succeeding in her journey. She was able to return the Heart of Te Fiti and save her village. With that information, it’s speculated that ‘Moana 2’ will revolve around Moana resolving another problem that her village will face.
Moana 2: Release Date
Moana was released back on November 23, 2016. It was later released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 7, 2017. The film also had a digital release on February 21, 2017, making it available on some leading online streaming platforms.
Right now, there is limited information regarding ‘Moana 2.’ However, there has been legitimate information that Disney is already in talks with lead voice actors’ The Rock’ and Auli’i concerning a sequel. These rumors have led to numerous speculations about ‘Moana 2. But right now, no official announcement has been made. So take anything you hear about ‘Moana 2’ with a grain of salt.
