Mob Psycho 100 Season 3: Cast, Plot, Launch, and Latest Updates

Mob Psycho 100 is an anime series based on a Japanese manga of the same title. The manga, which is called Moby Saiko Hyaku in Japanese, was illustrated and written by ONE. It was released online by Shogakukan on its Ura Sunday website. 

The manga has been online and is available in Shogagkukan’s mobile app called MangaOne, since December of 2014. It was compiled into sixteen volumes by the site. 

The anime adaptation of Mob Psycho 100 was done by Bones and was first aired in 2016 between July and September. The second season was released in 2019 and was aired between January and April. There was even a live-action adaptation that was released, which aired in 2018. 

Bones studio, also know as Bones Incorporated, is a Japanese animation studio. They are known for producing such successful anime series, including Wolf’s Rain, Scrapped Princess, Raxephon, Angelic Layer, Ereka Seven, Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist, and the Ouran High School Host Club. 

They also made two anime adaptations of the popular manga Fullmetal Alchemist. Other popular adaptations that they did alongside Mob Psycho 100 are Gosick, Start Driver, Noragami, Space Dandy, and My Hero Academia.

The Bones Studio headquarters is based out of Igusa, Suginami, in Tokyo. In North America, the series is licensed under Crunchyroll for streaming. Funimation does the English dub since it was aired in 2016. 

Plot

The main story of Mob Psycho 100 is about an average middle school student named Shigeo Kageyama. He was nicknamed mob, which means “Mobu” or background character because he lacks a sense of presence. 

Although the Mob has an unnoticeable persona, he has a powerful skill that he keeps a secret. Mob is an esper and has immense psychic ability. 

To keep his abilities under control, he continuously suppresses his emotions. Mob longs to live generally like the people around him. This drove him to work as an assistant to Reigen Arataka. Arataka is a self-proclaimed psychic and a con-man. 

Trouble seems to find Mob wherever he goes. With this, his suppressed emotions keep growing inside him. The more he loses control, the more his power becomes more uncontrollable. 

Mob eventually encounter other Espers like the one called Claws. 

Recap

The first two seasons of Mob Psycho 100 saw tMob’sgrowth from a school wallflower to his journey as a powerful psychic. Though aware of his abilities, he wanted to live more like an average person than psychic abilities. 

The earlier seasons tells the story of how Mob and his mentor Reigen came to be. It started with the latter taking advantage of his student’s gullibility. He wanted to use Mob’s power for his agenda. 

But regardless of how it started, Mob developed into a responsible boy who only uses his abilities if his master allows him to. The core of the story remains to be the master-student relationship of Mob and Regien.

Cast

The cast of this anime series is composed of Setsuo Ito, who plays the lead character Shigeo Kageyama. Takahiro Sakurai plays the Mob’s mentor, Arataka Regien, and Akio Otsuka plays the other lead, Dimple. 

Other members of the cast are Miyu Irino as Ritsu Kageyama, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Teruki Hanazawa, Ryunosuke Watanuki as Kijibayashi, Daiki Hamano as Saruta, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Sakurai, Seiichiro Yamashita as Sagawa, Kohei Amasaki as Takeshi Hoshino. 

There are also supporting voice roles from Jade Dennis, Landon McDonald, Atsumi Tanizaki, and Chris Hackney. 

Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Updates and Storyline

Mob Psycho is one of the most anticipated animes in 2020. This is due to the immense popularity of its manga series, which is of the same name. Season 2 as well as remarkably successful and contributed further to its demand. 

Mob Psycho fans have been waiting for over a year for its release due to its hiatus. As per the anime producer, further delays were caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. 

The creators have not released the official plot and storyline of season 3, but the cast has been giving away hints about what is expected in the upcoming season. The new season will be picking up the story from where it ended in season 2. 

Upon the end of the last season, we saw Mob losing all his psychic abilities and was considered weak by everybody. We will be visiting the return of characters like Dimple, Regin Arataka, and Teruki Hanazawa. 

A new character, Haruki Amakusa, will be named in season 3. Amakusa’s character is set to hunt for a spiritual monster named Hyaki. The main plot will still revolve around our main character, Shigeo Kageyama, and what happens next in his journey as Mob. 

The manga series on which the anime is based has now ended, and there are around 800 pages in the manga left. The remainder of the manga will be the basis for the rest of the 3rd season of Mob Psycho 100.

Currently, the studio and producer, Bones, is busy with another one of their anime hits, entitled My Hero Academia. 

Season 3 Release Dates

Mob Psycho 100 season 3 does not have an official release date yet. But the manga adaptation is set to be released in Japan in the first quarter of 2021. If everything goes as planned, the western release is expected around the 2nd quarter of 2021. 

Mob Psycho 100 Streaming Sites

The anime series is set to be released on the Asian market through Shogakukan. The English adaptation of the series is still licensed for release under the anime site Crunchyroll. 

Fans who want to do reruns of the series can visit the Crunchyroll site, or you can download their mobile app and watch the series through your mobile phones. Other viewing options are HBO Max and Netflix, although it is not available in all regions.
