Early Life and Childhood
Broderick Stephen Harvey was born on the 17th of January 1957. His birthplace is in Welch, West Virginia.
Born to Jesse Harvey, who works at a coal mine, and Eloise Vera, his parents named him Broderick after the actor in the TV Series “Highway Patrol” named Broderick Crawford.
While Harvey was still young, his family moved into Cleveland, Ohio where he continued his studies and eventually graduated at Glenville Highschool in 1974. His family lived on East 112th street which was later renamed “Steve Harvey Way” back in 2015.
After graduating high school, he proceeded to attend Kent State University and West Virginia University. During his time in college, Harvey also went on to become a member of one of his college’s fraternity, Omega Psi Phi.

A few years later, he was able to join the “Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search”. With his performance, it managed to help him become a host of “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and later gave him a starring role in the 199 TV show “Me and the Boys”.
