The PlayStation Plus Guide: All the Information You Need!

Although Sony’s PlayStation Plus has been around for more than ten years, the service underwent a significant makeover in June 2022. Customers of PS Plus previously had access to online multiplayer, monthly free games, plus a few more benefits including special discounts on PS Store purchases. During this time, players may join up for PlayStation Now to access a library of PS4, PS3, and some PS2 games.

The combination of these two services, which Sony announced will take place in 2022, would result in the launch of a new PS Plus version. A sizable library of games covering all of PlayStation’s existence, a tiered membership structure, a wide range of pricing options, and a number of other features were all combined in the merger. This all-encompassing package makes it more tempting for PS5 or PS4 owners to look for a complete overview of what is available to them should they want to sign up for PS Plus, especially with the introduction of the expanding PlayStation Plus 12-month UK Offer.

Every PlayStation Plus Level

Instead of just one, all-inclusive subscription rate, PS Plus offers customers the option of three: Essential, Extra, and Premium. A quick summary of what each level has to offer is given below:

  • Essential – The primary benefits of PS Plus prior to the 2022 makeover. Subscribers can accessregular games, online multiplayer, deals, and a few more benefits.
  • Extra – enjoys the advantages of the basic tier in addition to a number of downloadable PS5 and PS4 games.
  • Premium – Benefits from the Essential and Extra Tiers as well as a library of vintage PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games.

Which PS Plus tier a person should select is ultimately determined by their needs. Essential will be sufficient if a player solely plans to use the online multiplayer component, and upgrading to a higher grade won’t add any value.

The PS5 and PS4 games that are also accessible in the Extra tier are supplemented by hundreds of additional titles in Premium’s Classics Catalog, which is the tier’s main selling point. This collection of PS3 games is wonderful, but they cannot be downloaded and must be played over cloud streaming. As a result, how well they work depends on the user’s internet connection.

What Is the Price of PS Plus?

Each PS Plus tier has a different price point to correspond with the extras offered by the membership.

PS Plus Essential

  • 1-Month Subscription: $9.99
  • 3-Month Subscription: $24.99
  • 12-Month Subscription: $59.99

PS Plus Extra

  • 1-Month Subscription: $14.99
  • 3-Month Subscription: $39.99
  • 12-Month Subscription: $99.99

PS Plus Premium

  • 1-Month Subscription: $17.99
  • 3-Month Subscription: $49.99
  • 12-Month Subscription: $119.99

Increased Price for PS Plus beginning on September 6

PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium will all see significant price rises for their 12-month subscriptions beginning on September 6. Naturally, customers’ reactions to this news were very divided, and it didn’t help that Essential’s featured free game for September 2023 was the contentious Saints Row revival.

Here are the new prices:

  • PS Plus Essential: $79.99
  • PS Plus Extra: $134.99
  • PS Plus Premium: $159.99

The 1-month and 3-month subscriptions now seem to be remaining fixed at their present costs. Current customers whose 12-month active subscriptions are about to expire will have their service renewed at the prior rates up to November 6; beyond that date, the new pricing will be in effect. However, if a customer upgrades their plan after September 6, they will be charged the higher rates right away.
