Michael Jerome was born and brought up in Memphis, Tennessee on May 28, 1986, to father Michael Jerome Williams and mother Denise Oher.
The childhood days were spent with eleven siblings in a pathetic environment as his mother was an alcoholic and father used to be in prison most of the time. Eventually, he was not getting a good education as well as care on the personal front.

During 2008, Oher started his journey more professionally and become one of the top prospects of NFL Draft 2009. Initiating from the University of Mississippi under the guidance of coach Ed Orgeron, Oher played as a guard on the team and was named as the Freshman All- America.
The professional career became more intense when On January 18, 2008, Oher joined the 2008 NFL draft, and however, he withdrew from it later.
