Getting to Know This Game-Changing SUV

Now in its fourth iteration, the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is about to roll onto the scene as one of the automotive industries best in class midsize SUVs. The VW Atlas Cross Sport is quickly becoming one of the marquee vehicles of the Volkswagen brand, and the 2023 model year doesn’t disappoint.

The Atlas Cross Sport is tailor-made for those with a sizable family dynamic that appreciate having tons of space for long car rides. Let’s get to know a little bit more about this game-changing SUV.

What’s New With the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

Drivers aren’t going to see a ton of changes when comparing the 2023 model to the 2022 model of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. One noteworthy thing is that the SEL R-Line trim level has been retired this year. It has been replaced with the SEL R-Line black trim level, which consists of a black motif in the vehicle’s interior cabin and exterior accents and badges.

The other noteworthy change is that the traditional gauge cluster from the 2022 Atlas Cross Sport has been replaced with a 10.3” configurable digital gauge. It’s worth noting that the standard VW Atlas will also feature the new configurable digital gauge in its new model.

What’s Under the Hood?

Drivers shopping for new cars for sale in Houston will have a selection between two different engines with the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. They can either get a 235-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine or a 276-hp 3.6-liter narrow-angle V-6. Both engines will use 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Out of all the trim levels, the SE and the SE with technology trims are the only ones that will be available and front-wheel drive. It’s expected that these will be the most fuel-efficient of the Atlas Cross Sport trims, yielding approximately 21 mpg city/25 mpg highway. All other trim levels will come with all-wheel drive as a standard. The fuel economy with those is expected to be 20 mpg city/24 mpg highway.

Top Features and Technology

Similar to the 2022 model, the 2023 model of the VW Atlas Cross Sport will come with a wide variety of safety, infotainment, and convenience features. The following are some of the top features from the SEL Premium R-Line trim level.

  • Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro: 10.25″ configurable digital instrument display

Ample Cargo Space and Interior Room

The 2022 model of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport was well known for its ample interior and cargo space. The 2023 model continues that same tradition, providing drivers with 40.3 cubic ft. of storage with the rear seats up and 77.8 cubic ft. of storage with the rear seats folded down. Passengers in the front seat will have up to 41.7” of legroom while those in the backseat will have up to 40.4” to work with.

When to Expect the 2023 VW Atlas Cross Sport

Unfortunately, it’s going to be some months before the 2023 iteration of the VW Atlas Cross Sport arrives on U.S. soil. Although it’s not official yet, some publications are saying that the starting MSRP is going to be around $35,000.

In the meantime, drivers who can’t wait to test drive an SUV are encouraged to find a Volkswagen dealership near them so that they can check out the VW Atlas or the VW Atlas Cross Sport from 2022. Since no major drivetrain or mechanical changes are being made on the 2023 model, they should drive approximately the same.
